Unionville Community Association
Let us introduce ourselves. We are the newly formed Unionville Community Association,
a group of people who wish to make a difference in the look of our village. Some of the
ideas to give it a new and improved, refreshing look are as follows:
- Improve the Streets, Curbs, and Sidewalks <--Updated!
- Waste Receptacles
- Decorative Street Lighting
- Flag Poles
- Brick Planters or Hanging Baskets
- Removal of Overhead Wiring
- Street Trees with Grates
- Move the Community Sign to the South
- Improve upon the Veterans Park: Walk path pavers with names etched of our
Veterans and the years they served for our country, paint the band shell and
bring music back to our village, a clock tower, and benches. - Red, White, and Blue colors standing for Unionville-Sebewaing Area and United
States of America used throughout our village in our decoration plans.
Our Veterans walk path is finished except for the planting of flowers when the weather clears. We are still accepting money for new bricks and they can be laid at any time after the weather warms up. See our link for the form.
The Weather did not make for a very nice Christmas Lighting Ceremony however the lights and tree were beautiful and those who braved the weather enjoyed the Christmas Carole’s and hot chocolate and cookies.
The winners of our Christmas lighting contest were: Jeremy and Rebecca Van Tol, Brian and Rosemary Gaeth, David and Donna Balzer. Honorable Mention: Mitch Schember, Barb Grey, Bob and Janet Adlam. Thank you everyone for your support to make our village a much prettier place for the holidays.
We have been busy over the winter; we have applied to the state for another raffle license and will be having the tickets going on sale soon. Again we will be having a ten week drawing with two winners each week all for just $10.00 a ticket... First prize winner will be awarded $150.00 and second prize will be $50.00.
Plans are being made for the Unionville Summer Fest which will take place on Saturday Aug. 8, 2009 from 9-4. Vendors from last year will be contacted and we welcome any new ones. Our plans are to use the grass area next to the KC hall and expand down Church Street and Marvin Street.
This year is also the 130 anniversary of Unionville. Mrs. Lenore Roller Oswald, Mrs. Sally Zimmer, Mrs. Donna Sting and Margaret Van Hoost are planning a trip down memory lane with a style show and music at the Whistle Stop for the same day as our Summer Fest. pony rides will be back but this year we will have children’s games as well and Santa will come for a summer visit. Look for more information as time gets closer.
A dedication of the veterans walk path will take place during the Memorial Day parade. We would like to see more participation from our children, maybe decorate their bikes and walk with us. We will be looking into this with the school children. Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts too.
We have enlisted the help of the Tuscola ISD in making our banners for the festival and also printing up placemats to be used in the local area restaurants, and fliers too.
We welcome all those who are interested in helping our village shine with a spring clean up of our highway sometime in April.
Our group meets in the American Legion basement the second Tuesday of each month, come and join us in this worthwhile effort.
